Bad news for Trek's future

Paramount has reported rejected a proposal for an eleventh Trek movie, according to Sci Fi Wire. Given the proposed topic, I'm almost glad to hear it scuttled. But the news that Paramount will not consider another Trek venture "for a long time" bodes ill. The Sci Fi Wire report also suggests that Paramount might have trouble paying Patrick Stewart enough money to get him back as Captain Picard. But since Jonathan Frakes isn't getting anywhere near "Professor X money" for Alien Autopsy or any of that other dreck, maybe it's time for a Titan-focused enterprise?

Lucy Lawless rejoins Battlestar Galactica

Sci Fi Wire reports today that Lucy Lawless will rejoin the cast of Battlestar Galactica for a 10-episode story arc in the third season. Lawless, best known as "Xena, warrior princess," appeared in the second-season episode "Final Cut" as reporter D'Anna Biers, revealed (to the viewers, not the characters) in the final scene to be a Cylon. According to Sci Fi Wire, Lawless will appear again in the Feb. 24th episode, "Downloaded," before appearing in the long arc in season three.

I really miss having new Star Trek episodes right now, but Battlestar Galactica is just fantastic. If you've missed any episodes, you can buy them for $1.99 each from the iTunes Music Store (though they're optimized for viewing on a tiny little iPod screen).

James Cromwell as Captain Stacy

According to a Sci Fi Wire report today, James Cromwell (who played Zefram Cochrane in Star Trek: First Contact) will play Gwen Stacy's father, Captain George Stacy, in Spider-Man 3.
